Sex secrets

Are you feeling lethargic at the thought of sex tonight? Your libido may be struggling under the weight of your biryani over-indulgence at dinner. Being overweight has a detrimental effect on both your sex drive and the self-confidence to do anything with it.

“Overweight people cite some problems like lack of desire and avoid sex more than people with normal weight,” says sexologist and counsellor Dr Mahesh Nawal.

A study at the University of Minnesota found that people who jump on the scales daily lost, on average, twice as much as those who didn’t. While you’re watching the needle go one way, see your desire going the other!

Scent your night

Spreadsheets aren’t sexy, spreading someone out on the sheets is—but if you can’t leave work at the office, your libido will be in no shape for any homework.

Work-related stress is a common sex drive killer, so a selfindulgent session of aromatherapy and massage should help you relax enough to get busy. Scents have been used by hakims and traditional practitioners to excite the senses for centuries.

“Our sense of smell stimulates the nerve endings of the olfactory bulb, which lies at the back of the nose, which stimulates a part of the brain called the limbic system that also triggers our libido,” says Blossom Kochhar, a New Delhibased aromatherapist. Researchers at Yale University found that the smell of essential oils like cinnamon, bergamot, cedarwood, rosewood and lavender reduces blood pressure. A massage soothes sore joints and promotes good blood flow to the muscles.
